Ghana Energy Transition Consortium (GETC)

The Ghana Energy Transition Consortium (GETC) is a collaborative, multi-stakeholder platform made up of NGOs and allied partners in Ghana who are actively engaged in energy transition-related issues. The goal is to position the Ghana Energy Transition Consortium (GETC) as a strong civil society force that holds the government accountable and advocates for a more ambitious and inclusive implementation of Ghana’s energy transition plan. The Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND) serves as the convenor of the Ghana Energy Transition Consortium (GETC), which was officially launched in July 2024. The Consortium emerged from a  group of NGOs that began collaborating through shared discussions as fellow grantees of Gower Street, a UK-based family foundation. The Consortium’s mission is to foster collaboration, build strategic synergies, and create a space for the exchange of ideas on how CSOs can meaningfully contribute to Ghana’s energy transition goals.

Why GETC Matters

Ghana’s journey toward a low-carbon future must be just, inclusive, and locally driven.

GETC plays a critical role in ensuring that the voices of those most affected by the energy transition, especially youth, women, and marginalized communities are not only heard but actively shape national policies and implementation strategies.

GETC is a crucial force in making sure Ghana’s energy transition doesn’t just happen, it happens right.

WACAM

Wacam is a leading community-based human rights and environmental advocacy NGO in Ghana, established in 1998. Our mission is to empower mining-affected communities through rights-based education, policy advocacy, and legal representation. We focus on environmental protection, community livelihoods, and corporate accountability in the extractive sector. We operate in over 90 communities and work with CSOs, media, and international bodies to influence policies and ensure responsible natural resource governance. Our advocacy has led to improved corporate accountability, including legal actions and policy changes, such as the enforcement of the Polluter Pays Principle (PPP). Wacam strongly advocates for Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) as a fundamental right of communities affected by mining and oil extraction. We believe that communities must have the power to make informed decisions about projects that impact their lands, livelihoods, and environment. Through sustained engagement, we push for policy reforms that prioritize community rights, environmental justice, and equitable resource governance.
