YOUTH-NREG ACADEMY

The Youth in Natural Resources & Environmental Governance (Youth-NREG) Academy was launched in September 2024 and an outgrowth of the Youth-NREG Platform.

The Academy aims to train young climate and environmental advocates at the grassroots in leading solutions and positive change in their communities.

The program is hinged on the Academy’s “3-D” Approach that is, providing spaces and opportunities for youth to [discover, develop & deploy] their skills, energies and innovative ideas in contributing meaningfully in the governance of our natural resources and environmental sector.

VISION

A clean and healthy ecosystem in Ghana through youth leadership.

MISSION

Raise young leaders effecting positive change in climate and environmental governance.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE YOUTH-NREG ACADEMY

Each year, the Youth-NREG Academy (YNA), selects key members of the Youth-NREG Platform in explorations of the intersections of community, climate and environmental justice.

Framed from the perspective and history of limited youth inclusion in key decision making processes in the governance of the natural resources and environmental sector from sub-national and national levels, participants will explore the pathways of Advocacy & Public Policy, Youth-led Solutions and Inclusive Leadership.

The YNA is open to members of the Youth-NREG Platform who are already involved in climate and environmental/sustainability actions in their respective communities and cities across the 16 administrative regions of Ghana. This is to enhance and deepen the impact stories of the Platform.

Throughout the training course, participants will engage in hands-on learning activities related to climate and environmental justice, as well as receive career development and mentorship.

Participants will:

 Understand their communities’ role in Ghana’s environmental protection ambitions.

 Appreciate the present-day connection between the impacts of environmental injustice and vulnerable communities.

 Identify and explore issues of environmental inequity impacting their communities;

 Develop and present pathways to engagement and advocacy to a variety of community stakeholders;

 Explore educational and career opportunities
