The Youth in Natural Resources and Environmental Governance (Youth-NREG) Platform has embarked on a new chapter of youth-led action in managing Ghana’s natural resources. On July 30th, 2024, young leaders from across the country gathered at the Crystal Palm Hotel, Accra, for a dynamic renewal session that refreshed the platform’s objectives and strategies for sustainable development.

Under the guidance of Chibeze Ezekiel, Chair of the Youth-NREG Platform, the event focused on reenergizing the platform’s structure and goals, fostering stronger youth involvement in climate and environmental governance. Ezekiel highlighted key interventions, such as regional engagements, technical working groups, and environmental campaigners, aimed at leveraging the unique skills of youth across Ghana’s 16 regions. “The youth are not just participants in these conversations,” Ezekiel emphasized. “They are the driving force of sustainable change.”

Participants engaged in group discussions, breaking into regional clusters to identify local natural resources and explore ways the youth could contribute to the governance of these resources. The session also introduced new initiatives tailored to regional needs, moving beyond traditional capacity-building towards practical, impact-driven action.

The event marked a significant step toward positioning the youth at the forefront of resource governance in Ghana, with over 200 members actively working to amplify youth participation in climate action.
